Workplace investigations in Moranbah

BION Partners travels from Mackay to Moranbah to conduct independent workplace investigations for employers, with one-on-one interviews held on-site or by video call. We investigate bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, misconduct and grievances, and interviews can be scheduled around rosters and swings. We work for employers only.

Why use an external investigator in Moranbah?

Moranbah is one of the Bowen Basin’s mining towns, in the Isaac Region. In mining towns, people often work and live together, so independence and confidentiality are harder to maintain internally. An external investigator with no connection to the people involved protects the fairness of the process and the credibility of the findings.

  • Independent. No reporting line to anyone involved. We check for conflicts of interest before accepting a matter.
  • On-site. Interviews are one-on-one and conducted in person or by video call.
  • Consent-based. Every participant gives written consent before their interview.
  • Prompt. It depends on the size and complexity of the matter. Many investigations are completed within about a week; larger or more complex matters take longer, and we’ll give you a timeframe at the start.

Planning an investigation around Moranbah rosters and sites

ChallengeHow we handle it
Rosters and swingsComplainants, respondents and witnesses may be on different rosters or off-site for days at a time. Interviews can be scheduled around rosters and swings, so the investigation does not stall.
Camps and travelConduct may happen at work, in accommodation villages or while travelling. Whether conduct is connected to work is scoped carefully in the terms of reference.
Several businesses on one sitePrincipal contractors, contractors and labour hire may all be involved. It matters who commissions the investigation and what it covers.
Union involvementParties may be represented by a union. We are experienced in liaising with unions involved in representing parties to a complaint.

What we investigate in Moranbah

BION Partners does not provide services relating to workers compensation, does not conduct surveillance activities, and does not interview children.

Which safety regulator applies?

Queensland mines are regulated by Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ), not WorkSafe Queensland. WorkSafe says its Managing the risk of psychosocial hazards at work Code of Practice 2022 does not apply to some mining and resources workplaces, which are regulated by RSHQ. Other obligations apply regardless of the safety regime, including the positive duty under the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cth) and the Fair Work Act’s protections for workers against bullying and sexual harassment, where those laws cover the employer. Check which regime covers your site. More detail: workplace investigations in the Bowen Basin.
